Glass Gem Corn

Did you know that Glass Gem Corn is a thing!?!?!? Also known as Rainbow Corn, it's existed for hundreds of years. I learned about it in Charles Mann's book 1493 and I couldn't stop thinking about it. A few days later the amazing Adobe Substance 3D asset team released a bunch of new food models in the Substance 3D Asset Library and...wouldn't you know it...there was corn! I had to make it happen. Thank you for indulging me.

My takeaway from this project…don’t be afraid to go down the rabbit hole. When I first started this project, I had those creeping doubts slip into my head. “Why would anyone care about this cartoony-looking corn? I should just try and make a cute character or something.”

I ignored all that and just let my interests lead me down this weird path to these final images. I learned a ton about the process and didn’t let those inner demons shoot me down.
